Romans 12:2

I was recently asked to summarize my healing journey into one concise, easy to digest outline and Romans 12:2 was the perfect description of how my life has changed. If you need a quick go-to cheat sheet of how to overcome abuse or any other struggle in your life, then please meditate on this verse and allow it to renew your mind — and your change your life.

ROMANS 12:2

DO NOT CONFORM TO THE PATTERN OF THIS WORLD  The first step in my healing journey was to determine that I wasn’t going to repeat the same mistakes I made in the past. I knew that I had to repent and change my life if I wanted a different future. I stood on Isaiah 43 and believed that He was with me and that this trial would not overtake me.

BUT BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND  When I left my abusive marriage, I was completely broken mentally, emotionally, physically. I took one area at a time and studied everything I could to renew my mind. I received Christian counseling and inner healing and began slowly combating all the lies spoken over me in words and deeds. I found promise after promise, and God’s revelation knowledge began to heal my broken mind and heart.

THEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TEST AND APPROVE WHAT GOD’S WILL IS  The more I read and learned, the more I began to understand God’s will and desire for my life. I learned that sin is about God wanting us to have the best life we can have; it’s about keeping us from pain, and it demonstrates His love for us. I began to learn my value, how I should be loved, and how I needed to repent from my old way of living into a life of holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24  …put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

HIS GOOD AND PERFECT WILL  Jeremiah 29:11 states: “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future”.  God’s will for my life is not to be abused, mistreated, or broken. His plan is for an abundant life. After my abuse, I would go on to earn my degree and have a successful career. I would cultivate my gift of intercession and I’ve seen how God has used my pain to help others going through similar circumstances. God has blessed me and redeemed my life in so many incredible ways and I want that for you too.

Psalm 107:2 “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy.”
